The Truth About Toners

The Truth About Toners

Toners may just be the most underrated step in our skincare routines! Everyone has a favorite serum, mask, or holy grail face cream - even cleansers get more love.

While we often think toners are a skincare step to skip, that's not so! Used after cleansing and before serums, they offer a multitude of benefits for the health of your skin.

Toners Balance pH Levels

Perhaps most importantly, toners balance the skin's pH levels. The skin is slightly acidic, with a pH between five and six. It’s important for the skin to maintain that pH level to support healthy barrier function and moisture retention.

However, between makeup, dirt and pollution, that balance can be thrown out of whack. Toners restore balance, creating happy, health skin.

Toners Remove Leftover Dirt

While cleansers remove the majority of dirt and makeup, they're not perfect. A toner is like a second cleanse in that when you swipe it over your face with a cotton pad, you’re also swiping away leftover cleanser or grime!

Toners Can Offer Targeted Skincare Benefits

Toners are often formulated to offer targeted skincare benefits, like hydration or clarity.

If you're looking for hydration, reach for our Pink Coconut Hydrating Mist. We've blended lightweight aloe vera, antioxidant-filled rose water, and hydrating coconut water to offer serious hydrating benefits for those with dry skin.

If you're looking for a dose of clarity, you'll love our Spirulina Tonic Clarifying Mist. Spirulina eliminates toxins and improves cell turnover, rosemary water offers anti-inflammatory benefits, and sandalwood water soothes blemishes and rashes.

Toners Prep Skin for the Rest of Your Skincare Routine

Toners prepare your skin for the rest of your skincare routine. With ingredients that balance and cleanse, your skin is primed to allow treatments and serums to penetrate more deeply, allowing you to enjoy all they have to offer.

Toners Are Multipurpose

One of our favorite reasons to include toners in your skincare ritual is that they’re multipurpose! While their primary place is in your twice-daily skincare routine, after cleansing and before serums, they're also wonderful as a refreshing mist throughout the day or as a makeup setting spray.
