Do you think you might have combination skin? Do you want to learn what both your skin types really need and how to manage them together? Let’s find out.
WHAT IS COMBINATION SKIN & WHAT DOES IT LOOK LIKE?
With combination skin, you experience dryness in some areas, and oiliness in other areas. Unlike other, singular skin types, your skin is not just one way.
Where most women see the oily side show up is in that notorious ‘T-zone’: the forehead, the bridge of your nose and the tip of your chin. For many women, it also means larger pores and t-zone acne, contrasted with dryness in the cheeks or jaw line.
How do you know if you have combination skin? We’ve got a great tip to find out: Wash your face and leave it bare for one hour. At the end of that hour, if your T-zone is shining but your cheeks are dry, you have combination skin.

WHAT’S A GOOD SKIN CARE ROUTINE FOR COMBINATION SKIN?
It’s important to give both your skin types the unique care they need. So, we say, divide and conquer. Treat the oily and dry areas separately.
On the oily side…
Clogged pores, oil over-production and impurities benefit from really targeted treatment. A face elixir with ingredients that purify and protect can help bring hydrate and brighten. We love spiraea ulmaria extract (commonly known as meadowsweet) for its ability to regulate excessive oil production.

On the dry side…
Give your dry areas a nourishing, soothing, fast-absorbing oil that can penetrate deeply. Choose one that’s lightweight so it’s fine if some trickles into the T-zone.
TRY: ROSEHIP + BLACK CUMIN PERFECTING FACE OIL
For both sides…
- Choose a cleanser that can do double duty, reducing excessive oil without stripping away your skin’s natural, healthy oils. Our White Willow Purifying Cleanser does just that, and also gently exfoliates and eases inflammation, ticking all the essentials as a cleanser for combination skin.
- Drink plenty of water to hydrate your skin and keep those shiny forehead moments at bay. When you’re not drinking enough water, your skin will actually produce more oil as a way to hydrate itself.
WHAT CAN MAKE COMBINATION SKIN WORSE?
Certain climates can be really tough on combination skin. Humid climates cause over-production of oil, and hot and dry climates can exacerbate sensitivities.
Hormone fluctuations can also take a toll on combination skin. When your testosterone levels rise, your skin produces more oil, which is not ideal for your already oily T-zone.
When formulations are harsh or carry a lot of fragrances and preservatives, your skin can get irritated, so it helps to choose gentle, natural ingredients.
WHAT ABOUT ACNE-PRONE COMBINATION SKIN?
When you have combination skin and acne, it really helps to give breakouts targeted treatment. A spot treatment, like our Clarity Purifying Concentrate, on bare skin and then an elixir over top would cover both the blemish and oily skin.
WHAT’S A GOOD SKIN CARE ROUTINE FOR COMBINATION SKIN?
For combination skin care that knows just what to do and where, we recommend:
1. White Willow Purifying Cleanser
2. Pink Coconut Face Mist
3. Clarity Purifying Concentrate directly on breakouts or acne
4. Pure + Calm Infusion Elixir on your T-zone
5. Rosehip + Black Cumin Perfecting Face Oil for dry areas
